Connect an AI assistant
Abofence speaks the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Point a client at your account by signing in (easiest, for Claude and ChatGPT), or with an access token if your tool takes a header.
1. Sign in (Claude, ChatGPT)
Claude and ChatGPT support remote connectors that sign in for you — no token to copy.
Claude
Customize → Connectors → Add → Add custom connector. Name it “Abofence”, set the URL to https://abofence.com/mcp, leave Authentication on Sign in, then continue. Claude opens an Abofence page — sign in and click Allow.
ChatGPT
Add a custom connector with the URL https://abofence.com/mcp and sign in when prompted. (In the API, pass an access token — see below.)
Signing in grants read & write access so the assistant can also add or update subscriptions. Manage or revoke it under Settings → AI assistants → Connected apps.
2. Access tokens (header-based clients)
Clients that authenticate with a bearer header (Cursor, opencode, Claude Desktop via a bridge) use a token instead.
Open Settings → AI assistants and create one. Choose Read only to let the assistant look at your subscriptions, or Read & write to also let it add, edit, or cancel them. Copy the token when it is shown — it is not stored in plain text and cannot be displayed again.
URL: https://abofence.com/mcp
Header: Authorization: Bearer abf_…Treat the token like a password. You can revoke it at any time under Settings → AI assistants; the client stops working immediately.
3. Client setup
opencode
Add to opencode.json:
{
"$schema": "https://opencode.ai/config.json",
"mcp": {
"abofence": {
"type": "remote",
"url": "https://abofence.com/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer abf_your_token" },
"enabled": true
}
}
}Cursor
Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or the project's .cursor/mcp.json):
{
"mcpServers": {
"abofence": {
"url": "https://abofence.com/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer abf_your_token" }
}
}
}Claude Desktop (stdio bridge)
Claude Desktop can also reach the remote server through the community bridge mcp-remote. Add to claude_desktop_config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"abofence": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y", "mcp-remote",
"https://abofence.com/mcp",
"--header", "Authorization: Bearer abf_your_token"
]
}
}
}4. What the assistant can do
With read access it can list expenses and categories, fetch upcoming charges, show totals (with a per-category breakdown), read the expenses/upcoming resources, and use the “monthly review” prompt. With read & write it can also create, update, cancel, restore and delete expenses, and set or dismiss reminders.
